Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). After relocating to Oxfordshire when she was five, Emma enrolled at the Dragon School. Emma was just six when she realized she wanted to pursue a career as an actress. She trained for several years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a Part-time theatre school located in Oxford in which she learned acting and singing. As early as age ten she was involved and played the leading role in numerous Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the 2001 film adaptation from J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Emma was discovered by agent via her Oxford teacher. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through eight straight auditions. Emma's debut film came with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). The film set records for the opening day sales as well as opening week-end take-offs and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. The film was praised by critics who praised the film and particularly those who were young. The Daily Telegraph, an important British publication, described Emma's performances "amazing". Emma's performance received nominations and later won awards in the film.
